Courses taught
Biol 31 Principles of Biology II
Ecology, Evolution, Botany and Zoology- the second course in our two-semester introductory biology for biology majors
Offered every semester
Biol 113 Comparative Taxonomy
Systematics, phylogenetics, species concepts, species delimitation, nomenclature.
To learn concepts in these areas, we use an inquiry-based approach with examples from across the tree of life
Offered spring semesters
Biol 164 Ecological Field Methods
A field course (all day every Friday) focused on building skills in designing and executing ecological field studies
Offered spring of even years (2016, 2018, ...)
Bot 104 Plant Taxonomy
A field course (all day every Friday) focused on identification of plant families in the field and development of skills in using dichotomous keys to identify unknown plants
Offered spring of odd years (2017, 2019, ...)
Biol 114 Functional Morphology
The study of form and function in plants and animals.
We focus on discussing morphology in the context of physics and physiology with the aim of understanding how the process of evolution is constantly modifying plants and animals in nature
Offered fall semesters
Biol160 Ecology
This upper division course focuses on theoretical and applied aspects of ecology and includes elements of experimental design and basic computational skills
Offered fall semesters
Biol 202 Graduate Studies in Biology
This graduate level course focuses on developing writing skills, including abstracts, funding proposals and manuscripts.
